Van Wyck Community Garden

Hello neighbors! The KMNA is proud to announce our upcoming Van Wyck Community Garden Launch Meeting on Monday, January 23rd at 6:30 PM. Please RSVP through our homepage (kmna.org). For those of you who may not know, in 2012 the city acquired 20 acres at the far east end of Van Wyck Rd and the north end of the yet to be completed James st. with plans for a future park serving the King Mnt Neighborhood. We are excited to announce that the COB Parks Department in collaboration with the KMNA PROS subcommittee, plans to open our neighborhood's first ever community garden late this spring! The PROS committee has been working closely with the Parks Department to create a beautiful and functional design for our garden. The plan includes reactivation of an existing well, the installation of high quality fencing, gates, a picnic shelter, and tool shed. We are planning to install approximately 50 individual raised beds, including several ADA accessible beds. Additionally the PROS committee is interested in installing an educational garden space and orchard where neighbors could learn, grow, and harvest crops together and we are currently in very positive discussions with the City and other partners who can help us realize this vision for our neighborhood. Please join us for this informational meeting where we will discuss: -features of the basic design and infrastructure! -the timeline and status of various aspects of the project! -all the important details regarding how to sign up for a plot, get involved, and potential educational opportunities, and more. We would love to reach neighbors with limited access to growing space, so spread the word if you know of anyone who might be interested! Sincerely, Elizabeth Chace, PROS committee chair
